COERR Organized Tree Planting for Ecosystem Recovery on World Environment Day

   World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5th every year. The theme for World Environment Day 2021 is “Ecosystem Restoration”. COERR, therefore, promoted youths in Temporary Shelters to participate in Ecosystem Restoration through Tree Planting in the surrounding areas like forest, water sources, and community areas, such as schools, boarding houses, churches and houses. Plant growth had been recorded, under the project “My Tree”.

   There would be a competition of composition on My Trees to be held later.

   The project objectives were to encourage children and youth to acquire planting skills and caring of plants and become aware of the value of these natural resources, i.e. trees, woods, in their environment.

   COERR Mae Hong Son organized Tree Planting in Ban Mai Nai Soi Temporary Shelter, Mae Hong Son’s Mueang District on June 22nd,, with 402 youth of 241 female and 161 male participants; and in Ban Mae Surin Temporary Shelter, Mae Hong Son’s Khun Yuam District on June 26th, with 200 youth of 132 female and 68 male participants.

   COERR Mae Sarieng organized Tree Planting in many schools in Ban Mae Lama Luang Temporary Shelter, Mae Hong Son’s Sob Moei District, on June 26th. There were 320 youth participating with the aim to gain planting skills from caring jack fruit seed germination, following its growth and, with good care, bearing fruits in the future.

   COERR Mae Sot organized Tree Planting Project on June 5th at Ban Mae La Temporary Shelter in Tak’s Tha Song Yang District, with 226 participants of 111 females and 115 males. On the same day, Tree Planting Project was organized in Ban Nupo Temporary Shelter with 261 participants of 172 females and 89 males. In each shelter, 200 young plants of Avocado trees, Mango trees, etc., were grown along the schools’ fences and in the boarding houses.

   On June 10th, Tree Planting was organized in Ban Umpiem Temporary Shelter in Tak’s Phop Phra District. There were 210 children and youth of 105 females and 105 males participating.

   COERR Mae Sot also organized Tree Planting in the Reforestation Park in Ban Mae Ok Hoo Village near Mae La Temporary Shelter, on June 16th, 2021 with the participation of authorities from Government sector, Ban Mae Ok Hoo teachers and students totaling 300 persons.

   COERR Kanchanaburi organized Tree Planting Activity in Ban Don Yang Temporary Shelter in Kanchanaburi Province’s Sangkhlaburi District on June 23rd. There were 387 schoolchildren of 216 females and 171 males participating. Each student grew 1-2 plants in their school compound, and took another 2-3 seedlings back home to grow.

   The rest of young plants were given to Churches, Organizations and needy household. There were totally 1,000 seedlings being distributed in this occasion, e.g. Pine, Teak, Black Plum, Siamese Neem Tree, Vegetable Hummingbird Tree, etc.
